Central Jakarta Now Has Two 3R Waste Disposal Sites

Central Jakarta now has two reduce-recycle-reuse waste management sites (TPS 3R), after Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, inaugurated the operation of Rawasari TPS 3R, Jalan Rawasari Selatan, RT 16/02, Cempaka Putih Timur, Cempaka Putih, Friday (1/26).

We now have two TPS 3R. 

Central Jakarta Environment Sub-agency Head, Slamet Riyanto said that previously there had been Ketapang TPS 3R in Gambir Sub-district. This waste management site, which was built in 2017, has been operating since 2021.

"So, we now have two TPS 3R," he stated.

3R Waste Processing Site in Ciracas will Operate Next Week

He continued the TPS 3R technology currently being used is capable of processing household waste into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) type fuel which can be used for industrial machines in cement factories.

Besides producing RDF, the two TPS 3R also play a role in reducing waste by sorting and developing the cultivation of maggots and black soldier flies. Besides breaking down organic waste into valuable products, personnel at the location would also sort organic waste that has a selling price.

"To operate the two TPS 3Rs, we deployed 20 waste processing pesonnel. Every day, they are on duty from 8 AM to 4 PM," he explained.

Of two TPS 3Rs, his party could reduce the volume of waste by around 35 tons every day, with details from Ketapang TPS 3R weighing 10 tons and Rawasari TPS 3R weighing 25 tons.

"Every day, around 900 to 1,000 tons of waste in Central Jakarta are thrown into the Bantar Gebang Lamdfill. From two TPS 3Rs, 35 tons can be reduced every day," he explained.

Cempaka Putih Sub-district Head, M Fauzi believed that the Rawasari TPS 3R could strengthen waste processing efforts in his area.

"Thus far, the Environment Sub-agency has been active with residents in carrying out sorting from an early age. With TPS 3R, it will certainly strengthen it even more," he said.
